“The difference between mere killing and a glorious sport is the manner in which you do it – over thrilling dogs, in magnificent country and with a near-reverence for the game. If anyone can dig up something nice to say about me I hope it will be, ‘he loved bird shooting, but more than that, he loved the bird.’” – George Bird Evans

Meet yOur guide

Sam Glasbergen grew up in Central New York and started hunting in his teens after being raised in a non-hunting family. He quickly learned to navigate the woods deer hunting and knew he was destined to become a grouse hunter the first time he was startled by an explosive flush. He’s spent years exploring grouse cover across New York and slowly acquired a collection of cherished coverts. Sam’s passion for grouse and woodcock hunting has brought him to many states with friends and dogs, old and new, but his picturesque New York coverts are still his favorite place to pursue the king of game birds.

Meet The dogs

Sam has known he was a Setter man since before he knew he was a bird hunter. A neighbor growing up had a pair of Setters which captured his attention. After owning a couple other breeds, he finally fulfilled his dreams when he bought his first English Setter. He currently hunts with Gus, an orange and white experienced bird finder with no quit, and Mabel, a tricolor up-and-comer with moderate range, a ton of bird sense, and classic style.
